Lake Jackson, TX, August 9, 2015– Wes Sims, volunteer construction manager for Habitat for Humanity of Southern Brazoria County (HFHSBC), was awarded the Texas Habitat Volunteer of the Year award at the Lone Star Conference Tuesday, August 4 in San Marcos.

“Wes has received the award he has certainly earned and we are very proud that he has chosen to donate his considerable time, talent and treasure to our affiliate” said HFHSBC volunteer Executive Director, Mary-Ellen Thomas.

Wes has been a true leader in the local Habitat, continuing to push the construction volunteers toward excellence in home building. He trained in Energy Star construction which lead to the affiliate receiving an Energy Star construction grant from Home Depot. The local Habitat remains the only Energy Star builder in its service area of Lake Jackson, Clute, Brazoria, West Columbia, Angleton, Freeport and Sweeny. Energy Star homes provide significant savings to homeowners in utility bills.

Habitat for Humanity of Southern Brazoria County is an all-volunteer affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. The local affiliate will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2016 and will build its one hundredth home during that year. House #97 will be built in Freeport beginning Thursday, September 10 at 8am. House #97 is sponsored by Dow. For more information, visit our website www.habitatsbc.org.
